The Danish Minister presents his compliments to the

Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and has the honour, in

obedience to instructions, to acquaint the Marquess Curzon of

Kedleston with the following matters.

Captain Hieronymus Ipland of Aabenraa, who

has acquired Danish nationality according to Article 1 of the

Danish Law of September 5th, 1920 (vide 1st Section of Art.

112 of the Peace Treaty of Versailles) has applied for the

assistance of the King's Government in order to obtain the re-

lease of 500 Dollars, deposited by him with the `HONGKUNG &

SHANGHAI BANKING CORPORATION, HONGKONG`, and sequestrated by

the British authorities at the outbreak of the war.

It appears that Mr. Ipland in October 1916 tried

to withdraw this money from the Bank's Branch at Hamburg, but

was compelled to content himself with an advance of 900 Marks,

and furthermore to undertake to repay this amount plus 6% interest in the event that the Bank should be unable to recover

it. In 1920, having become a Danish subject, he wished to
